Like sands through the hourglass...

The reality that Nate is going to start school this year is really kicking in. His school supplies have been ordered from the PTA. Granny Debbie bought him a Mario Kart lunch box. His backpack was delivered yesterday. (Do you know how hard it is to find a backpack with Bowser on it?) I turned in his "notice" at daycare stating his last day will be August 14th.. We started talking to him about a special outing before he goes back to school. We're going back to school clothes shopping over the next two weekends.

All this made me think about my favorite thing he has ever said about going to daycare. After hemming and hawing about not wanting to go into school he finally tells us "Nobody likes me. They think my clothes are boring!"

I found those words hard to believe. The child had on a Cars Lightening McQueen shirt that lit up when it moved. His classroom is like Cheers when he walks in. "Nate!" Girls kiss and hug him when he leaves in the afternoon. Even if they did think his clothes were boring you could never convince me that no one likes him. There are a lot of kids he's going to miss from that preschool.

Looking forward, I'm excited about the new experiences he has in store for him. He only knows a few first graders and one kindergartner at Marion Elementary. If all goes as planned this will be the last time he will have a completely fresh start at a school. These will be the kids that will move to junior high and high school with him. With his personality I'm sure he'll have a best friend an a girl friend before lunch on the first day. He'll probably also have a note from the teacher about talking too much.

Now if only I can hold it together emotionally...
