Swim Lessons 2009

We signed Nate up for city swim lessons this year. He did Water Babies with the city several years ago. Two years ago he did private lessons and last year he didn't have any lessons. He could swim but needed confidence, so we signed him up. In addition to building confidence we wanted him to begin learning proper technique.

Unfortunately, he started building confidence right after I paid the $60 tuition but before class started and I'm not sure we met the technique goal.

The City of Allen first divides the kids by age, then by skill. The age ranges are 3 - 5 (minnows) and 6 - 12 (sharks), so Nate was about as old as a minnow could be. He was in the most advanced minnow class, but he was still head and shoulder above the kids as far as swimming skills. (That sounds kind of boastful, but its true. There was a kid in his class that had a hard time putting his face in the water.)

His confidence did continue to build, but it could have done that without the lessons. At least he had a good time.

The class was very basic, so I don't think he learned much in the way of technique.

Here are some pictures.
