Eye Appointment

We've been enjoying our spring break. We've spent time with Grandma Hutchins and Granny Debbie. We've played in a couple of parks and taken some cute pics of the kids. Gray really loves swinging.

We got up early this morning and headed downtown for the appointment with Dr. Holz, the retina specialist. Kenny was up first and had a good checkup. Nate helped Kenny cheat on the letter chart vision test. Kenny got stuck on a line and Nate told him what the letter was.

Gray was also doing fine. His eyes healed nicely and the Dr. Holz doesn't see any problems developing. We talked about the kids new ophthalmologist a little. Dr. Holz will be sending a report to Dr. Packwood.

Unfortunately Nate's checkup didn't go as well. He took his eye drops (for dilation) like a champ. He didn't cry or kick. He's getting better at that every time we see an eye doctor. There has been a considerable change in his cataracts since his visit last year. While its not so bad right now, Dr. Holz recommended taking the sooner rather than later approach. Having the surgery this summer will give Nate's eyes time to heal before he starts school. We'll look at our schedules when we get home and call Dr. Holz's office to schedule the surgery next week. Just like with Gray it will be two out patient surgeries done a couple of weeks apart. Unfortunately Nate will be able to remember his surgery. I wonder how he'll react to clearer vision.

Nate took the news rather well. He's looking forward to pretending to be a pirate with his eye patch. I'm afraid that he won't be as happy about it when they take him back to surgery. Maybe one of us will be able to accompany him until the anesthesia kicks in.

I'll get some pictures posted later. Tomorrow we're planning to head to the Houston Livestock Show. Nate started feeling bad this afternoon and is running a 102 fever. Hopefully Tylenol and rest tonight will get him better and ready to go have fun tomorrow.
